At the ceremony, students enjoyed literary performances and performances by teachers, including dances and songs on Teachers' Day, and performances of Chinese cultural fusion. Then, Ms. Chanpheng Duangphachan, Deputy Director of Friendship School, went through the history of National Teachers' Day, including the history of Teacher Kham, highlighting the tradition, meaning and importance of growing up and the origin of the word teacher so that the new generation can remember the virtues and remember the historical day to continue and preserve the tradition and pass it on.
In 1905, there were only two schools in Laos: in Luang Prabang and Vientiane provinces. The number of Lao people who attended was very small. Among them, a Lao man named Kham graduated from grade 1 (grade 6). In 1907, Kham attended teacher training, which was considered the first time in the history of Laos that teacher training was organized. After completing the training, he became a teacher on October 7, 1907. Because the French colonialists saw the influence of monks in education, they changed their policy to expand the school even further by opening a school to train monks in 1907 at Wat Chan, which included more than 50 monks who attended. Kham was also a teacher in that school. Because of Teacher Kham's patriotic spirit and love for the Lao people, not allowing the Lao nation to be annexed by France, the school has since been expanded and continued to the present. The ceremony also included a brief report on the overall situation of the school. The Friendship School is located in Ban Na Lae, Xay District, Oudomxay Province. The school was granted permission to establish by the Ministry of Education and Sports in 2013 with 3 grades: kindergarten, primary and secondary. The school organizes teaching and learning according to the national curriculum set by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The organization of teaching and learning of foreign language courses takes English and Chinese as the main subjects from grades 3 to 7. In the 2024-2025 school year, there are 38 classrooms, with a total of 1,587 students, 708 of whom are female, 5 buses for transporting students, and a total of 69 teachers, 44 of whom are female, 53 Lao teachers, 36 of whom are female, 18 of whom are Chinese teachers, 16 of whom are female.
During the ceremony, students also read out congratulations to teachers and passed an agreement to commend outstanding achievements from the District Education and Sports Office, the Provincial Department of Education and Sports, the District Mayor, and the Provincial Governor to teachers respectively, as well as awarding annual scholarships to a number of other students who have had the opportunity, and awarding prizes for the Men's and Women's Football Competition and the Friendship School Principals' Tournament.
At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Bounkhong Lachienphone, Deputy Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Governor of Oudomxay, spoke to teachers and students on the occasion of another anniversary of National Teachers' Day. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers, school principals, and teachers who contributed to supporting education and providing scholarships for students who had the opportunity to come to school. On the occasion of October 7, the 30th anniversary, he wished all teachers success in their work and continued to maintain the good tradition of the golden teachers, as well as Lao teachers throughout the country. After the ceremony, the Governor of Oudomxay and his delegation also inspected each point of the school to further inspect the construction and teaching system.
